PhpBB and Simple Machines announce SimplePhpBB!

This is a fantastic news for all people following those two great projects since the beginning. The two teams plan to merge and join their efforts in the same powerful product, that will take the best of the two worlds: the simplicity of PhpBB and the power of Simple Machines. The name is quite logical and really attractive: SimplePhpBB!

Obviously, the project won't be ready before one year (the 1.0 version is currently planned for April 1st, 2011), but during this time, the teams will not have much time to support the next PhpBB 3.0.8 and Simple Machines 2.0. Users should therefore use the latest versions of the both products.

[Edit]: The project has been unfortunately cancelled, due to some disagreements for choosing the name. Indeed, some developers were thinking that PhpMachinesBB was better, and finally leave the project. And yes, it was an April 1st's joke ;o)

We are really excited by this news!

Simple Machines 1.1.11 Review updated

The Simple Machines team has released the eleventh maintenance version of Simple Machines 1.1.11 in December 2009. It was time for Forum Software Reviews to do some updates on its Simple Machines review, that was getting old.

This is now done, and you will find there some fixes, additional information and lists of modules (Modifications in the SMF terminology) that could be useful for Forum Webmasters.

Please also not that the Live Demonstration has been reinstalled with the latest version of SMF 1.1.11.

How The Simple Machines Upgrade Process Works?

Advanced users could be interested in the format used by SMF to provide upgrades. Actually, it's a kind of XML version of a patch, that is interpreted and executed in the local installation, by the SMF core implementation. This way, contrary to main forum softwares, the administrator does not need to do any file management (with all risks he can encounter, like FTP problems, files omitting, copy/replace problems,...) to update its installation.

Simple Machines announces the release of SMF 1.1.11

A security release of SMF has been provided by the Simple Machines team. It fixes multiple vulnerabilities found in SMF 1.1.10 and an update is also available for community administrators that are still using the SMF 1.0 branch.

As usual, the update could be done by log in to your Administrator Center, that will provide you instructions to upgrade your local installation of Simple Machines Forum.
