Having previously tried to setup a community via another provider, I now know the difference in user-friendliness and functionality.
For me, an admin novice (but prolific user!) setting up with Lefora was easy and self-explanatory. I didn't get this with the other provider - well, not as easily and quickly. Since setting up, the forum has developed into a thriving community where like-minded professionals in my line of work can comfortably spend some pro-active cyber time (privately).
We chose to keep the forum (and its content) private - at least for now - asthere are others who are trying to copy the format as we are clearly more successful and more popular by far.
Thanks to Vincent and his 'get support' team whoare always on hand to advise.
Lefora is down again, as usual. Think twice before you start a forum with them! They are NOT fixing anything on a timely basis and you will be forced to start a new board to save membership from your old board. The board has now been down over 5 hours (middle of the day). Not even the Lefora .com site is running.. This is bad business all around.
Well, I just made my company's Lefora forum live on Thursday, only to have it (and the entire lefora.com site) become a 404 error for the greater part of a day. This is unacceptable. I'm sorry to see such a nice design in the hands of folks that are, apparently, unable to maintain its reliability. I had to remove the link to the forum, as I cannot allow a non-functioning forum to be linked from our company site. So, the search begins for another platform, as I cannot trust Lefora to stay operational.
Lefora is an ez to use software but is now a ad driven machine. New users will have to go through 4 or 5 ad pages and play "Wheres Waldo" to find the pass button. I can not recommend this software to anyone. The help forums are horrible.
I've been using Lefora for over 4 years now. It was fine in the beginning - I'd say for the first 2+ years - no problems at all. But over time, folks can't seem to keep their fingers out of the programming and with every change comes more and more problems. I have recently experienced problems with the left hand side of the screen not showing up for those of us who are on Apple products and use either Chrome or Safari. One member is repeatedly having her posts go to spam, for no reason. One member was dropped with no notice or any intervention of mine. Two more cannot log in, and now the login page is gone for them. The only option is to re-join, but since they are members already, I have to drop them manually to re-join. I've had to manually drop at least 5 members for this same problem over the past year - most of them on Apple products. Photo upload buttons appear and disappear randomly. The screen scrolls by itself at times (slow loading?). And finding someone to help? Good luck. I have put in 'trouble tickets' and not had a single answer. They want screen shots of everything, even if a screenshot won't help with the problem. Oh, and now not only do you have to have ads on the pages, but even to log in you have to watch a stupid ad and get the answer from it to 'prove you're human'. What ever happened to the simple number system ebay uses? Don't even get me started on the captcha crap! I got stuck on the login page for 1/2 hour trying to figure out what the heck they wanted for an answer when they were using that.
This hosting software is definitely geared to Windows, so stay away if you use any kind of Apple products.
I'm looking for a new host now, which really stinks because we have so many uploaded pictures and over 10,000 posts we will lose. I'm really sorry I ever went with Lefora.
