Go with UBB.threads instead.

Go with UBB.threads instead. Rick Baker cares far more for his customers than any other developer. UBB.threads 8.0 will be the ideal forum software of the future, and will also include blogs and a photo galley at no additional cost.

The proof is in the pudding.

http://www.forum-software.org/forum-comparator/ipboard-vs-ubb-threads-vs...

Do I care if the developer of a software 'cares' about me - yes but not as much as I care about pleasing my clients. I care about software that meets most of my needs. I mean, in the future UBB threads may be better but right now I think there are other forum software that offers as much and more. Next time consider that an argument/post/review w/e will be weak in persuading potential clients if they can not provide valid evidence/proof. You could try coming across as unbiased to better get your point across.

Andros - get a life, and get some ethics. You're a bottom feeder who never learned how to advertise legitimately. This says more bad about your software than good, and I believe everyone will avoid UBB because its owner is such a spamming troll.

It wouldn't be bad, if they

It wouldn't be bad, if they weren't so darn greedy.

They want to charge you $150.00 for the main license, $75.00 for nexus, $65.00 for gallery, $50.00 for blog, $50.00 for downloads and $50.0 for content, Then it is another $105.00 every 6 months if you want support or updates for all of them. IP.Boards is nice, but it isn't that nice. It is a total greedy rip off.

Yes, I suppose this kind of strategy is mandatory if you want to survive as a forum software editor. You'll have at least always the choice of open source softwares: unlimited updates, code modifications, contributed plugins & themes,...

They can't be bothered to put

They can't be bothered to put together a down-loadable Users/Administration Guide in PDF
format. They expect you to spend all your time on their site trying to learn their software.
It was bad enough when software manufacturers stopped supplying printed manuals, now
they don't want to supply electronic manuals either. If IP Board can't properly support what
they sell, I can't be bothered to use or recommend their software.

That is what is really funny.

That is what is really funny. They charge you more then any other forum software, and charge $105 every 6 months to support their crap, and then they have lousy support to boot. Don't buy their crap!

You know what's sad? In the

You know what's sad? In the beginning, they had something like this on their website: "PHP and MySQL are all free so why should pay for a software that uses them?"
And now, they are paid only. Really, the software is nice but I won't pay for it as I can write my own or use an existing software (there are lot of them, even IPB 1.3 is fine)

Disappointing when they

Disappointing when they remove great features that you & your community loved using & part of the reason you originally paid such a high price for, then to be given very little to no answers as to why, no support for the 6 monthly support fees paid & total disrespect towards the paying customer

Do not upgrade to 3.2 unless you want features they insit you must have & lose featires that they insist you don't need without letting you decide for yourself

truly disgusting that they remove features that have been a major part of their software for over 5 years & then expect you & your community to deal & make do, leaving Mods to have to create & charge for what was originally part of the basic software package

Top

totally agree with you

totally agree with you wraithw, it is very disappointing that a software company would remove good features without giving people the options. It is also sad to see that they remove these features & expect the community to create the mods to make up for their own stupidity showing total disrespect for the people that bought their software in the first place. they've obviously forgotten the key rule..

Don't bite the hand that feeds you

I saw your review aftert I

I saw your review aftert I submitted my own. I would never go out of the way to speak down on a company, especially one I used to love as much as IPS. However, their behavior the past year has been inexcusable. They are basically telling everyone to just get over it after they removed features that we had and paid for in the past.

Disgusting.

Pros: Version 3.2 is

Pros:

  • Version 3.2 is flashy
  • Mobile version does not support most official add-ons.

Cons:

  • Customer service is bad.
  • Customer service is unresponsive.
  • Many features from the old version were removed without explanation

Summary:
I wanted to like them. I really did. They did their best to give the illusion of customer service before the sale but completely disappear after they have your money. They removed a ton of features from the most recent release. These are features that their customers loved and they were just removed without explanation. IPS has been unresponsive to a massive push-back from their customers. Basically just arrogantly stating that this is how it is and basically to get over it.

Pros: Great features

Pros:

  • Great features included
  • The almost complete forum software
  • Loads and loads of features
  • All features are well organized

Cons:

  • Too expensive for what it is
  • Tecnical suport is awful. If you want this, try not to get in a situation where you need support.

I gave 5***** because that's what the software deserves. I just prefer not to use this because it's very expensive and the support is awful. And I repeat! The software is plain awsome!

Everybody who is talking

Everybody who is talking about poor customer service, I'd like to see the support tickets. I've honestly had NO bad support tickets, from any of them trying to push it off onto something else. With that being said it makes me curious as to how people act towards those in support. (Demanding, rude, etc. . )

And being "unresponsive" I would have to disagree with. There's going to be some things that you don't like, and yes there are some features they removed, but they are all things that could be added easily if you want them. They obviously felt it didn't fit what they were going for so removed those features.

Have any of you checked out what's coming in the latest nexus upgrade? Some sweet stuff. . The only thing that I think that really needs work is IP.Chat. Once they do something with that they will be unstoppable and people will see that they truly are a great company, and hopefully that'll allow them to start hiring more developers to do even more with IPB.

5 stars, quit hating people.

Pros: -Tons of

Pros:
-Tons of features.
-Easy to manage.
-Good Mobile version.

Cons:
-You're forced to update to new versions "for security reasons". I was.
-They removed the web hosting plans and what included them without warning. I never got a notification about.
-New versions removed features "some" users loved. In my case, exactly those I needed.
-Bad customer service. "Things, now, are so, sorry" (more or less) serves me of very little.

Summary:
We have been their customer for the last eight years and loved them. Referred them. Rated them to the top. Always hosted my webs and forums with them. Now I'm leaving. See Cons and guess why.

Doubtless for other users it's very good, but they are no longer for me.

Pros: Many many

Pros:

  • Many many features
  • Easily manageable.
  • Intelligent use of javascript for the menus and to make some small tasks faster (like peeking the 1st and last posts of a topic or when making a topic as read)
  • Good ACP and a great search feature embedded (as long as you speak english).

Cons:

  • Support staff is almost useless.
  • Support staff is not that professional
  • Support, in general, is really bad (event though it has some really good exceptions where it was actually good)
  • The WYSIWYG editor is a pain in the a** to try to use.
  • The convertor they made to convert between HTML and BBCode not always work and has to many bugs
  • The WYSISYG editor is not that easy to use.
  • The WYSISYG editor does not format spaces as it should. Just change to BBCode mode and see your spaces transform into 1.
  • In the WYSISYG editor the code tag does not work properly. All whitespace characters are just cleaned. If you wanted to paste some code in a forum where
  • Made some custom BBCodes? Forget it. The WYSIWYG editor will not recognize 'em. It does not even recognize BBCode they made like the quote BBCode!
  • Choose one. Have the buttons working and using the bad WYSIWYG that give you more headaches than writing the BBCode yourself or use the text editor where you have all the freedom you need but you don't have the buttons working and you have to write all BBCode yourself. (note that changing between both will probably ruin your formatting)
  • Installing modifications is easy. Making sure that incompatible modifications are not installed is not that well made... I had to replace everything once just because the system let me install a modification that was incompatible with the version I was using.
  • If you are using a feature you like but they think that that feature is not that useful or is giving too much work, they'll just remove it.
  • Some js executions are a ted slow. (they could use jQuery better)
  • ACP search is sluggish if you don't use the forum in english.

Summary:

Good forum with great features and great modules system.
Shame they have sooo critical failures like the defective WYSIWYG editor which is quite useless. Even the current BBCode editor of phpBB3 is better than this!

Support of phpBB3, which is an open source project, is better than having support with this guys!
It should the the other way around! The guys here are gaining our cash and working on our expenses This is inexcusable!
Fortunately, their system works well. even though it has the completely FAIL WYSIWYG editor and some other not so bad problems.

I made a greasemonkey script

I made a greasemonkey script that replaces it with SCE, which works much, much better with BBCodes.
I didn't give much work into styling it so it does not feel as WYSIWYG as it could be. Still it is useful and I get rid of the fail parsing and whatnot of that modified CKE.

I used to be a vBulletin

I used to be a vBulletin user, and the interface for the editor was simple yet it was perfect.
I cannot stand the editor IPS have implemented, the amount of issues myself and my community have is unreal.
I'm not a pro in regards to forums and their functions, however if there would be any way you could help me out to make it as simple at the vBulletin editor, once again, I would be very grateful.

IPB community and staff are

IPB community and staff are very disrespectful. No reliable support with little or no friendly or useful communication. Product uses resources as if it were water. Very insecure. They have released 2 or 3 patches after I have purchased IPB. A lot of sites I use including my own was hacked because of those security flaws.

Take your money and run else where. You're better off.

Pros: Easier to manage and

Pros:

  • Easier to manage and setup than vBulliten
  • AWESOME UI
  • TONS of features

Cons:

  • I've personally never had to deal with support staff, but from what I hear they aren't great. If you aren't a technical person and think you'll need a lot of help using the software, look else-where
  • A lot of the addons cost money, making the investment more.

Summary: Great software, with workable setbacks.
