One year after the latest release of PunBB, version 1.3.4, Forum Software Reviews has reviewed it again and the PunBB Review has been updated. This is finally done, and please note that the same really good score of 7/10 has been given to PunBB, as it is still, without any doubt, a great forum software when you look for simplicity and ease of use.

We also take the time to update the PunBB live demonstration, that wasn't updated since the creation of this website, 4 years ago! (actually, PunBB was the second forum we reviewed here).

It could be really interesting for your members to have an idea of how many times a subject has been viewed or read. Unfortunately, Drupal does not provide this in the default forum module, but it already provides some key features that helps integrating this views count really nicely and easily.

Drupal is not the only CMS that provides nice forum integration. Joomla is the other heavy weight product of the market, and the different solutions provided as components to give users access to a forum to your website are quite powerful and complete. As you know, it is not recommend to modify the core package of Drupal, and therefore, you are not supposed to modify the misc/ folder as well. Starting from this point, how could you now modify the images of the thread icons, to let them being more modern? This is what we are going to explain here.

Even if you can't modify the Drupal core files, you can however customize an existing template file that is part of the Drupal Forum module: forum-icon.tpl.php. To customize it, as usual, create this file in your theme folder, and clear the Drupal cache. Now, Drupal will use this new file instead of the default one.
