Ok I know the idea is kinda simple but here's the thing, I've been using phpBB 2 and 3 for years now and sadly to me it lost it's appeal.
I already have a community based off Warcraft III's modding/resource making materials www.wc3u.com (using phpBB3.0.10 now.) I've been talking with my community about any ways to "expand" the site and some of them suggested new forum software.
But the problem is, it feels "static" if you get what I mean, we have impressive technologies in 2012 released like Silverlight and Flash (it's old but it works ) , php 5, HTML5 etc etc... I mean the problem to me is the attachment system for me isn't mean for video games since they are stuck at the bottom of the page all the time. I do know a little bit of php coding (I had to do a website with php and mySQL linked for school exam.) So I don't mind if I have to code a little to have my tastes.
Now I am ready to spend some money on a software if needed. Or go with a CMS.
I might as well talk about what I have for a server (it's a hosted one anyway):
OS:Linux (Ubuntu 64x if you want to be precise ) kernel : 2.6.32-131.17.1.el6.x86_64
Unlimited bandwidth and HDD space (so doesn't matter if it's a really big forum software)
So to summaries:
A forum that's meant for a creative community and looks modern, but yet needs to be simplistic to the viewers (we have children that are pre-teens in our forums so make it easier for them you know )
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this,
Well, did you have a look to Xenforo or IP.Board, I think the way the manage attachments is a bit better than phpBB for instance.
FSR Admin - Vote for 2012.
Yes I just did last night. IP.Board looks interesting but I really wish to understand why we need to pay more for live chat, or gallery or a blog. Xenforo on the other looks great but I just wish people would just offer like a 1 time pay up and get upgrades for free, sad reality but oh well, if my community will donate for it, it should be worth it.
I'll try both demos to a extent before buying one or the other since no refunds right?
It's definitely the problem with paid solutions, you cannot understand why you have to pay more and more if you want additional services... And indeed, no way to refund...
It should be a standard these days a chatroom on a forum so that's the part I don't get. Blog and Gallery I get it though.
I do agree with you!
