What's the future of forums? Will something take over from them, or will Facebook/twitter integrate into them fully?
Message boards are still a popular venue for many online discussion groups. As long as they remain accessible, forums should live a fairly stable life into the future of the Internet. Social networking services such as Facebook are already being integrated into forum software, which goes to show you that software developers are really bringing the trend of social networking to the products we've come to love over the years.
How far will these implementations go? Only time will tell.
I however have the feeling that it's more and more harder to create a popular forum on an subject (except new subjects like TV shows, new video games, new event) that has already been discuss somewhere else. So, I don't have a clear view of the future, but i'll stay careful with it.

What about the ASP GetSatisfaction? Do you see that as a future of forums?
I'm looking at different forum softwares myself (for our start-up iPhone game development company) - and I keep wondering if GetSatisfaction is like the 2.0 of forum technology.
Am I fooling myself? Is it more limited to its users and administrators than I would like to believe, or is GetSatisfaction as useful, beautiful, and leading-edge as I think?
We've never reviewed GetSatisfaction here, even if it is planned, and it's clear that it looks very promising... but I prefer waiting to discover it in deep, to be sure that this is not just a Web-2.0 facade...
What do you mean Web 2.0 facade? Are there a lot of them that look good on the surface but don't really last as companies or have the depth to support expanding communities?
Thanks for your response.
Without trolling, vBulletin 4 is one of those bad example, where the forum looks good, but once you go to the back office interface, you simply discover that it hasn't change since vBulletin 3. Adding shiny web-2 buttons and some dynamic layout is generally not sufficent to be considered as a modern forum software.
About GetSatisfaction, I really don't know, and I suppose it is quite good, but I can't advice you to use it if I'm not sure of its potential.
( I can't post a new thread here.... It says my post is the spam....
That's a nice idea! Can you give us your feedback when you'll do a tour on this app?
Forum is still favorite spot for finding the solutions, get new information, latest update and many other things of the industry you are looking for. There many players that provides the forums development resource, like vBulletin, SMF etc. and I do not thing so in future someone taken over this various platforms of discussion.

I think that there is something on its way to replace forums, but no one can predict what it is.
